It is always difficult - even - to classify books. Sometimes they are included in a series and sometimes they are separate.
I initially chose the series, as stated on the book, but it can also be different
perhaps a subset of field

Um, I have added these books to my collection; However, they were imported by collector Wolter-Jan.

Yes, that is not good.
In new collection areas I saw that there were some errors in those books and I corrected them.
So I had no overview of the entire series. In my opinion, these are indeed duplicates.

Shouldn't serial names also include “Under the spell of the ring” as a series?
By the way, do you think that a sub-series field is also needed for books (such as album series for comics)?

I noticed that there were three albums added, double, because they had already been entered by me. Collector Blueberry has introduced this, and Arco has made last change.
These are parts 10, 11 and 12.

If you count all administrator changes (they don't appear in the statistics) then I think there are already 10,000s!
Thanx!

Arco, you have already improved over 10,000 fields in the catalog in a few weeks. Almost unbelievable but really true. Congratulations on this milestone!

Over the past few days, I've been digging into ISBN numbers. I was especially interested if you can deduce the dashes between the numbers. That turns out to be the case. If you're interested in this, check out isbn.org
What I think is the best solution is that you can enter both with and without dashes when entering, which you find the easiest. Subsequently, the dashes are automatically placed in the right place when displayed. I expect to internally store the ISBN number without hyphens to make it easier to look up.
What I also want to do is check if it is a correct ISBN number (based on the last number). This also increases the quality of the input.
I just need to figure out the hyphenation rules for ISBN -13.

Over the past few weeks we have had a large number of comments and suggestions around entering stories. This weekend, a large number of changes have been made to the site around the introduction of stories. This makes it easier to enter stories.
The main changes:
  • You can now also enter multiple stories with multiple screenwriters and illustrators for a new comic book album.
  • Some browsers required you to click the "add story" link multiple times before anything happened. Has now been resolved.
  • The sorting of the stories has been improved. Stories that do not have a number are shown last.
  • Layout when entering multiple stories has been improved.
Thanks to everyone who provided feedback.
    Marco

We also believe that images should not be copied from other sites. If only because you cannot check whether the scan is correct with the exact version and data of the album in our database. A source field will not work because if the image is changed by another user then this field is no longer correct.

When we went live with the site, I suggested Hans Matla to have an exploratory conversation about a possible collaboration. Unfortunately I don't have an answer to that yet. Later I spoke to Hans, but then he had not yet been able to view the site. I don't think it's a good idea to just copy a numbering from another source without any agreements The purpose of the story numbers is to be able to list the stories chronologically independently of publication in any series. And to be able to refer to it. If a story exists in different versions, such as The Black Rocks of Tintin, then the idea is that they are referred to with the same story number (also with Bommel). This will make it possible to see the different versions and publications of the story by clicking on story number or story title. In my opinion, information about series should not be expressed in the story number.
I myself have the idea that in the numbering we have to make a distinction between stories of normal length, short stories and 1 page gags. Now we use a prefix for that which seems fairly generally accepted (V, K and G). Soon we will also make it possible to store the number of pages of a story. Then we could also derive this letter if that page field is filled in.

Apart from the fact whether the use of the numbering in the Bommel catalog is a good choice, I am against simply copying from other sources without making an agreement with the relevant author (s). Indeed, such a catalog did not come just like that.

I am in favor of what Theokop says about the Bommel catalog. I think that c (k) atalogus is becoming an important reference for Toonder / Bommel collectors. And perhaps also for other interested parties. That c (k) atalogus did not come just like that, did it?

Apart from the fact that V and K are indeed too few (now also G is common for numbering one-page tags in series that (almost) exclusively contain those kinds of jokes) I wondered what the added value is of a initial letter to the Bommel stories.
What does such a letter M or B add to the agreed upon letter V?
Well… a lot!
At least… with a series like Bommel of which there are so many different series within the series that you get hopelessly in a knot by calling everything V just like that. Take the Tom Poes stories from Donald Duck… They also run from V1, but have the same series / hero. That will cause problems as soon as more functionality comes into Catawiki to do something with story numbers.
So it is indeed important to come up with something for that I would just keep V and K for now until a decision has been made. And then adjust everything in a structured way. Otherwise you will keep busy.

I have been busy for days with the introduction of the Knipsels van Bommel. But the further I get, the more I feel resistance to the brief story codes V and K. In addition, I have also seen that the story code Vo has been used for books.
Over the years there have been many codes for the Bommel stories. used. Starting with In the Bommelpaperback "My own lonely road, using the story code MV. A code that Mondria gratefully used in the Bommel bibliography 1978.
In 1981 De Bezige Bij switched to a story code MA, which is used by them to the end in the paperbacks.
Matla used the story code in his Bommel catalog 1989 BV.
Because the most complete overview can be found in the Bommelkatalogus, I would like to propose here to use the story codes from it. Also those of the stories that appeared in various weekly magazines.
That will change a lot.

While entering my Tolkien collection, I encounter a number of problems. One of these is the Series designation. Some are classified as Series Prisma books, the others as Spectrum books. But now I have a number of books of which I really cannot find a clear series name. My preference, and that also applies to the books of Tolkien that have already been imported, is to put the books of Tolkien under the series name “Tolkien” or “Books of Tolkien”.
Also with regard to the books written about Tolkien, which can be put under the series name “Books about Tolkien”.
How do you feel about this?

I notice that unfortunately there is no year below the image of the book. With reprints it is then difficult to see who is what, especially because the reprints can look the same.

Correct.
And then it doesn't matter which one you take.
There are also duplicates in Publishers.
Solved by merging them once with a script.

Somehow there are two "Gulik, Robert van" in the author's system. I can't tell the difference between the two when it must be one and the same person.
