Welcome to the games section of Catawiki! If you want to add games to the catalog it is appreciated if you adhere to the following “rules of the game” as much as possible:
- First photo (required):
Place a photo of the entire lid of the box here, taken straight from the front and filling the screen with a small margin. So no pictures diagonally from the front / side or of the unpacked game. If the sides of the box contain relevant details, it may be possible. picture 2 or 3 can be used for.
- Second photo (urgently requested):
If available: The full content on display, with open board and game rules. Optionally, the box can be in the background (e.g. to reveal details of the sides).
Third photo (optional)
Any close-ups of details, such as playing figures, special dice, etc. or other photos that can further clarify the whole. If relevant, the back of the box can also be shown here.
It may also be useful to list the contents of the box in the “Particulars”.
Of the older editions it is often not known in which year they were released for the first time. Try to make the best possible estimate, e.g. by comparison with other editions of the same period.
If you have any questions, you can always contact the administrators of the games section.

Hello!
Is it also not useful to bind the description of themes etc. to a fixed list (a thesaurus?) Only the administrator should make additions to the thesaurus. This is to prevent proliferation and to keep structure in the Games Catawiki.
The example of the Deutsches Spiele Archive might be a good start.
Greeting
Magny

Dear Magny,
This is a good point. Our idea is to have 1 central theme list for the whole of Catawiki. In this way all items in the entire catalog can be shown around a theme. So yes, this is being worked on but it will take a few more weeks for this to be realized.
Regards,
René

Perhaps it is an idea to consider including a field in the catalog in which a link can be placed to background information about an item or series. For example: Monopoly could be referred to Albert Veldhuis' excellent Monopoly Lexicon.
Regards
Magny

Finds the explanation about games (3 required pictures) a bit overdone.
It should be enough if you place 1 picture of the game.
And note the data in the attachment.

Nowhere does it say that photo 2 and 3 are mandatory, you know. It only explains what 1, 2 and 3 are for. Only 1 is therefore mandatory (the lid).

As Magny pointed out, only the first photo is indeed mandatory. The second is very much appreciated but there may of course be reasons why this is not possible (for example with new games that are still in the foil. Remember that for collectors it is often important to be able to see as much detail of the games as possible, especially if there are several different editions of it.
Furthermore, it is necessary to strictly adhere to the guidelines of the first photo to prevent the overview from getting a messy look.
In the games there are also some (first) photos of myself that do not meet this requirement (these were included with the initial upload of the database). I am currently in the process of replacing all of them.

Guess I don't quite understand the
CataWiki.
Thought it was a catalog of WHICH GAMES exist.
So not for the sell it for collecting. (in your own collection)
It works the same as with postage stamps.
If the comics or books and games are for sale, then I understand that you can get as much of it as possible want to find out about the object.

Game collectors buy a lot of games second-hand, especially the older ones. A collector would like to know exactly what should be in a game, because many second-hand games are offered incomplete or not completely original at auctions. Hence it can be useful to show as much details of a game as possible in pictures 2 and 3.
For example, take a look at the older games in the Stratego section. They often only differ from each other in a few details.

Although the discussion is already closed, I may add a small contribution for the sake of completeness. The usefulness of posting multiple photos is shown by the phenomenon that some games with the same name and number can have radically different content. Example is Word / Wort mastermind from Invicta.
Another site showing the usefulness of many photos is Boardgamegeek
Stand there so many different versions of games with the same name that the collection would be confusing without photos.

What is the function of 'Game sequence'?

Maybe specified on quartets?

The Game series field has the following explanation:

Only complete if the game belongs to a series known by a general name, such as the "Casino series" of Ravensburger.

This means that if a certain manufacturer / publisher has released several games that have many similarities, for example if there is a series of quartets about Suske en Wiske with a different album as a theme, for example, then the series can be called, for example, comic albums. Or a city quartet is also a series in which each city has a separate card deck, but all fall under the city quartet series.

Incidentally, I also find it strange that the quartets have not been added as a separate game type, because there are is now very much under card game (other)

And the general game name Quartet and Quartetspel may also be combined.

I did that yesterday :)

First moved the few single quartets to Quartet. Those others had too much to do in one night.

Glad that the species I replaced and are empty are now no longer visible.

What can be done about a loose quartet like the Stayokay quartet that has been placed in a completely different category?

And the general game name Quartet and Happy Families may also be combined.

Is that still easy to do by an administrator, or is it as I had done with others, change every quartet?

An administrator can create aliases, so that all terms of 1 kind come under 1 name, whatever they are called.

If you have looked at the administrators of the card games section, you will see that there are only 2 administrators of it. And the way you are doing, I would say sign up, because it is abundantly clear that the administrators of that section have their hands full and could use some help.

Once you have done that you should have patience and just continue what you are doing and unfortunately change every quartet. It would help if other collectors do the same (and then in the same direction towards the quartet). That way, the CataWiki idea also comes true, because together we make the CataWiki Catalog more complete and complete.

The stayokay quartet that you gave as an example is from the time when (card) games were also used. toys. It was introduced as one of the first items (2009 and CataWiki has existed since 2008) by one of the first members, Jilles. In fact he was right, because a game is actually also a toy. By the way, you can see in the history that the item has not yet been reviewed, so Toys also have a major management problem. This game should indeed be moved to the games section, but only a super administrator can do that, because every regular administrator can only do a lot in his own section.

Furthermore, I am still doubting whether the game Quartet or should be called Happy Families.

In my opinion, the object is a quartet. You play quartet, you go quartets. On wikipedia it is also a quartet .

Sometimes the boxes say Quartet, sometimes Quartet Play, sometimes Quartet Play.

It was mentioned before here, but the rules at CataWiki have changed and adapted over time, so I'll ask again here.

Is it possible to get references to other websites or to place other sources with specifics? Reference has already been made to the monopoly lexicon of Albertus Veldhuis (handy, where can it be found / looked up, or is that HONG?) And I have this example , but there are many such cases. For example, many references to the toy museum in Deventer, often with pictures of it. Is that also allowed, as long as you mention it?

That is not useful, because they can change and we have to maintain them all. Until now, we often take them away when we see them. Even referring to other Catawiki numbers is inconvenient, because they also change when merging etc ...

Should only the reference be deleted or the entire text? Because I think the text is simply taken from the aforementioned catalog. If we remove the reference, we are actually committing plagiarism.

As far as I remember (before my time), this was introduced by the then manager with the permission of the play museum. So it is probably best to keep the copyright references.
