While looking at the site I occasionally come across foreign comics ... I think the site is www.catawiki.nl true the nl stands for the Netherlands. Only Dutch comics would, I think, cover the load perfectly!
Greetings,
René

I think that many Dutch and Belgian comic book fans are also interested in certain foreign publications. These may be albums that have not (yet) been released in Dutch in a series. But also think of the avid Tintin collector who collects Tintin in all languages. There are more than you think. So as far as we are concerned, these can be fine on the site where it is good to indicate the language in the field concerned (and that is also good to do for publications in Dutch dialects and in the Frisian language, because that is not dialect, you shouldn't make that mistake in Friesland :-)

Where do you indicate the language? On a series / hero level or on a series level? For example, I saw that with Lucky Luke the distinction is already made at series / hero level; so you can choose "Lucky Luke" or "Lucky Luke". Subsequently, the series are indicated here in the relevant language.
This also seems a logical way to me, because otherwise you would get series in all kinds of languages mixed up.
By the way, I am in favor of mentioning foreign comics, I think there are many people who also collect these.

That's a good point. You can now indicate the language per album in the “Other language / dialect” field at the bottom of the list of characteristics that you can enter for a comic. Only do if it is not in Dutch.
Since that is known, in theory it is not necessary to distinguish between the series name (so Lucky Luke English is actually superfluous). Certainly because we will offer even better selection options in the near future where you can select on combinations of fields. Within the Lucky Luke series, for example, on editions in the English language of publisher Cinebook. Or on French Tintins in combination with Uncoloured when coloring.
But now that all the serial names are going to change, I think it is too drastic a step. But let's see if the extensive selection options are available. For now please fill in the field “Other language / dialect” where necessary.

I am also in favor of mentioning publications in other languages. They are in your collection after all. (Would be honourable, René: a cabinet in every collection with the sign 'Uncategorized stuff' on it.) I'm also in favor because I'd like to import all my secondary material in the long term, and that includes a lot of foreign language stuff.

@ Rene
Then you might be able to make a distinction in language on the series / hero page in the left menu. For example in the case of Lucky Luke: you just enter it under the normal series / hero name "Lucky Luke" but indicate that it is English in the language. Subsequently, in the left menu in the row of series (Dupuis, Lucky Luke collection etc etc) a distinction can be made between Dutch and foreign series. I can imagine that you just see the row of series that you see now, but that you have a sub-heading “English” below it (which you have to get from the 'language' field) with the series that appeared in that language below.

An example of a comment placed in the left menu can be found in the Indians series by Hans g. Kresse. I am entering the translations - also in my collection - and I give them the album series name: Indian series German (or something). I know a number of collectors who also have these books in their collection.

Yes, it is indeed already possible to make a distinction within the series by including the language in the album series. As Jilles has already shown well with the Indian series indeed. It is less beautiful at Bommel where something similar has been done, but then all foreign ones together in the album series “Foreign releases”.
The disadvantage is that you have to save 2x the language: 1x in the album series name and 1x in the language field. We should actually prevent that. So make a selection option based on the language field. Let me think about it for a moment.

I see that Arco has simply put the foreign publications in the normal list at Donald Duck. Now my solution did not deserve the beauty prize, but now the foreign series have passed through the Dutch series and the list of series is also getting very long. I think a classification by language in the sequence menu would be a good solution. (but I already said that ;-))

Do you mean "The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck"?
There it said the series "Donald Duck (English)" and I have indeed changed that to "Donald Duck".
This because the album series already stated "(English)". That all seemed a bit duplicate to me.
You can now just see the series on the left side of Donald Duck as "The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck". So he is not among the Dutch albums, unless you choose to see everything from Donald Duck.
This is exactly the point that everyone seems to think differently about and where a decision must be made, otherwise we will keep changing each other's things back and forth. So the question is concrete:
Do we also enter the language for Series / Hero or is Donald Duck just Donald Duck in all languages?

Then for the time being I would like to make the decision as follows: please do not make separate series per language, so no Donald Duck (English) but indeed include everything in the same series (Donald Duck) and then fill in the language (English) and with make it clear to the album series that it is a series in a different language. Arco's solution.
Deblouw: I think that your objections will soon be removed if we offer more extensive filter / selection options. Then you can indicate that you do not want to see other languages and you will no longer be bothered by it.

So it is not among the Dutch albums, unless you choose to see everything from Donald Duck.
How do you mean? I can't choose an overview of the Dutch albums anywhere, can I? I always choose to see everything in the donald duck series, because otherwise you won't get to see all the album series. The search function only sees the album series that contain terms from your search query.
Rene: That seems to me to be the solution!

I think excellent agreements have been made here. Finally, as a Dutch-language comic collector, I also have a number of foreign comics in my possession and it is primarily a collector's catalog.
But it is a collector's catalog for Dutch speakers and I think it would go very far if, for example, a comic strip is now entered twice; one with a Dutch description and one with an English description. And it goes even further if a completely Dutch object (Sjors, Revue) can only be found on the site with an English description. In my opinion, that serves a different purpose than placing your collection on the site.
An illiterate person like my person has no use at all with these Dutch objects because I do not know what they stand for, while it is quite interesting to know that the first encounter with Prince Valiant was an advertisement in the Sjors. In short, I want to make a strong plea to continue to use Dutch as the main language; also when describing objects in other languages.

It is indeed still the intention to provide details in Dutch. If there is a whole English-language catawiki (which is also the intention) then we will translate :-)
But… of course it is better to indicate interesting details in English than no details at all. So if there is no alternative in Dutch, do not immediately delete the English text.

There are more English texts for details, but in 99% of the cases there are texts from the book itself.
The texts for Prince Valiant provide background information that is apparently intended for a wider audience than just a Dutch audience.
I suspect that it is a matter of copy / paste from the original website. I remain of the opinion that it should simply be translated into Dutch (also applies to the other English texts).
Value judgments in the field Specifics like Nice book should certainly not occur. I will, with all due respect, decide that myself.

You are absolutely right about that.
And translating texts in other languages is indeed always welcome.

I am now very confused how to use the site. Are comics in other languages allowed or not? About half of my comics are in other languages.
How do I enter comics that I have in multiple languages?
On other collection sites, a distinction is made between the work and the copy that you have on the shelf. This means that a book can be in multiple languages in your shelf, but belong to the same work. Is that also the case here?

I had created a new topic but I already see a few things here.
Is it not possible when you search for comics, for example elfquest that you can choose between sorting on Dutch and foreign, just like you can get sorted by year and ascending. All those foreign publications don't really interest me yet, that's why.

If you search for Elfquest and you click on that series / hero, you will get to the main screen where all the issues that contain Elfquest are listed.
But… if you look on the left you will see the album series specified. If you click on it, you will only see the relevant series.
As long as you do not click on foreign series, you will no longer see the albums included there.
