Hi, I recently bought some Tangy and Laverdure comics from the early eighties. They are in new condition (unread)
but if you open them just a little too far the glue will loosen. does this depend on the quality of the glue or are they perhaps too dry.
Does anyone know this and what to do about it?
Best regards

With old strips, the glue is the problem.
Solution: re-glue

There are quite a few albums from various series where the problem of "crumbly" glue plays a role.
Donald Duck/Scrooge, indeed the Tanguys and also Roodbaard, Olac, etc. The impression is that later albums a longer-lasting type of glue was used again in combination with better "binding/quires".

I once tried to completely remove a bad album, but then you noticed that the glue residue was barely removable unless you were willing to mess around with glue solvents, sandpaper, etc. I'm certainly not handy, in any case I really couldn't get the book block in properly. I then stayed away from it, preferring a sleek and beautiful album on the outside and inside with a "loose" book block than a repaired disaster. It is of course worth it if an album is expensive to have an "expert" glue it together, but yes that costs money.

I have tried it with bookbinding glue - Collall - bought at a Bruna store - quite often with a reasonable to good result. Apply some oil to the loose leaves with a small brush - press well and then leave it for a month. The glue dries but remains flexible. It won't be as beautiful as a new book, but the surprise of a comic book falling empty from the cover no longer happens to me.
I dare to read old Storm albums again without risk.
