Is there a reason why a distinction is still made between 10 and 13 in books, while this is no longer the case with comics?

Has no specific reason.
The most special thing is that you can fill in an ISBN.
Regardless of whether that is ISBN-10 or ISBN-13 for books.
Or for comics - ISBN.
And so you can search for it.
At least if it is filled in (correctly).
And 10 you know: before 2007; 13 after 2007.
So nothing to worry about.

lordernie It's always been one field in comics and in books - sic - it's always been two fields. With books they are never merged and that is why there are still two fields.

Personally, I think that a catalog should be as uniform as possible.

lordernie Jilles
You can of course add an ISBN-10 field to Comics.
But that offers no added value to the catalogue.
You can only search for an ISBN in the catalogue.
That's the main thing. Whether you search via an ISBN of 10 or 13 digits. Does not matter.
Furthermore: you cannot display ISBNs in an overview, it makes no sense whatsoever.
Do you still want 2 Isbn fields at Comics?
Then you know.
More than 616,000 comics in the catalogue.
And these must then be viewed one by one (yes) and adjusted manually.
You can skip the one from before 1970, okay. Due to no ISBN at that time.
But how many more are left to go?
A few 100000's?
Who is going to deal with that? Knowing that it offers no added value?
I'm not allowed to tell you.
There are other things more important than this, My opinion to be clear.
Only that you then have 2 fields for the ISBN for both comics and books.
And to start with, it would make a big difference if the isnbn was filled in.
And preferably correct too.
With the - (dashes) between the fields.
Because that is not the case everywhere now.
So you have to check the ISBN yourself if you want to do it right.
But, with all due respect, lordernie, if it were ever started you would have to grow very old to see the end...

lordernie then tell me what you use the ISBN for and how you use it (i.e. what).
And don't get away with: to search for the title; because you are required to fill in the title everywhere in the entire catalogue. So you can always search for that.

Jilles actually thinks it's a shame that it is not provided in all sections to fill in the barcode, because that is usually the surest way to identify an object.
To give an example of CDs, etc., there are so many different issues (per country) that I include the barcode with the details.

Why do you do that?
The Barcode has its own field in Music and Film.

Was a wrong example, because I actually meant other, because most other objects have one.

lordernie most to look up the value of books via Google.
Well then you just need an ISBN.
Whether you get that ISBN from 1 or 2 fields, what difference does it make?...
You know...something about nails...
